Jungle rumble

arrrrg. Here’s my jungle rumble. It took me like an hour and a half just cuz I got really frustrated with it. Nothing was reading the way I wanted it to. My treetops look way blurry for example (bad brush choice). I need to do some more studies from reference photos.

  1. starting from ref would be a good idea- visual research. Also, look at how other people paint jungles to see what kind of things they do to create depth/mood perspective etc.-

this is a great start, you have the FG, MG BG there. I think some things that are missing are the light source (there is very little light/shadow happening, throw in sunlight on the tress and branches!) and a ground plane. It's really hard to determine the perspective without a ground plane included (or at least hinted at).

Also, be careful about using so much black, especially in the foreground. It can be graphically powerful, but in a scene with this much light happening, the black foreground trunks will make the piece to feel inconsistent, if that makes sense.

    keep going =)
